Ecclesiastes 12:13 states, "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" (NIV).
If you are searching for fulfillment, purpose, and/or meaning from the world we live in, you might not want to hear the bad news; you will never find it. There is not one thing in this world that will fill the darkest and deepest hole in your being – not the greatest job, the most beautiful women or best looking guy, not having the greatest education, no having the finest automobile, or having the most money. None of these things even come close to filling that uncompleted spot within you.
King Solomon, had everything one man could ever want, and he was one of the richest men of his time. Yet he traveled down a dark and lonely road trying to satisfy his desires for the wrong things out of life. He sought after passions; he sought after possessions; and he sought land, buildings, and beauty. In the end this is what his conclusion was: "Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 2:1-9).
Have you ever gone to the kitchen in search of something to eat and could not satisfy that hunger, no matter what or how much you ate? You know there is something your body is seeking, but no matter what you find, that craving is never satisfied? In the same way we are created with a hunger for God and no substitute for Him will ever complete the uncompleted spot within you. We are created to love the Lord, know the Lord, and be fruitful for the Lord. Everything else in life is secondary to this.
Therefore ponder on this a minute: If loving God and knowing God are first in our lives; doesn’t it make sense that He would be the only one that can complete us. Doesn’t it make sense that He is the only one who can take away that searching and hungry and fill the uncompleted spots within us?
Everything else in life should be secondary to loving and knowing the God who made us. Your families, your church, your job, your possessions, your ministry, and so on are important, but they are not or should not be the first and foremost purpose in your life. Until you realize this, you will continue to seek things you cannot find, and find things that you cannot make fill that uncompleted portion of your being. Only God can complete you. So why not stop the search and allow Him to enter in. He is waiting on you to decide to stop searching from can, to can’t, and seek Him.
Have a blessed week,
Pastor David
